University of Southern Indiana University Center East
The University of Southern Indiana recently opened its $18.6 million University Center East, a facility distinguished by extensive use of local building materials applied in groundbreaking new ways. The architectural design of UC East was conceived to repurpose components and materials manufactured in or indigenous to southwestern Indiana. Some are of historical significance to the university and the community. The project also created an architecturally distinctive centerpiece in its 97-foot-tall conical tower. UC East brings the combined University Center to 173,904 square feet, including 59,720 of reconstructed old library and 20,815 of a new multi-story link and tower construction. Illinois State's Bowman earns CASE V's 2011 Chief Executive Leadership Award
C. Alvin "Al" Bowman became Illinois State University's 17th president March 1, 2004. He served for 26 years at the university prior to the appointment, including a year as interim president.
Under Bowman's leadership, Illinois State has transformed into a first-choice Illinois public university, ranking for seven straight years as one of the top 100 public universities in the nation for quality and value, according to Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine. (Read more)
