DePaul University (Chicago), four grants from the National Science Foundation: $435,000 to investigate how the restoration and conservation planning process relates to biodiversity in complex metropolitan landscapes; $499,000 for research in software security and security foundations; $499,000 to develop a framework for analyzing unstructured data; and $499,000 to study “stateful interfaces” to specify and verify the interaction between components of an information system in a wide variety of programming languages and distributed systems. Also, $30,000 from Origin Capital, LLC to become a sustaining sponsor of The Real Estate Center at the university.
    
Knox College (Galesburg, Ill.), $400,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support faculty research, scholarship and professional development.
    
Loyola University’s Gottlieb Memorial Foundation (Melrose Park, Ill.), $4 million gift from Gottlieb Memorial Foundation Chairman Jack Weinberg for major hospital renovation.
    
Marietta (Ohio) College,  $2.6 million from the Joe Chlapaty family to revitalize Don Drumm Stadium.
    
Medical College of Wisconsin (Milwaukee), $1.1 million from the Daniel and Laura Gruber Charitable Lead Trust #3 to boost the study of esophageal cancer by establishing the James J. Gralton Laboratory and the James J. Gralton Endowed Research Fund.
    
Oakton Community College (Des Plaines, Illinois), $110,000 from the Workforce Board of Northern Cook County to provide for recruitment, case management, and assessment services to targeted populations under the Workforce Investment Act. Also, $57,559 from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service for the funding of a program to improve employee health and welfare and help reduce the college’s controllable health care costs; and $31,837 from the Illinois Community College Board to develop or enhance career and technical education programs.
    
Ohio Wesleyan (Delaware, Ohio), $1 million bequest from Alice Klund Levy to support renovation of Stuyvesant Hall, a campus residence hall. Also, $300,000 from 1951 graduate David E. Griffiths to fund enhancements at Selby Field.
    
Otterbein College (Westerville, Ohio), $199,409 from the National Science Foundation to develop a new model for the integration of structural methods into the undergraduate chemistry curriculum. Also, $113,000  from NSF to fund RUI: Neutrino Experiments with the NuMI Beam, and  $174,441 from Columbus City Schools to fund the sixth and final year of the TQE: Teacher Quality Enhancement Partnership.
    
Saginaw (Mich.) Valley State University, $855,556 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Nursing Workforce Diversity Program. Also, $184,830 from the Michigan Department of Education for the Urban Literacy Cadre (ULC) project; $79,375 from the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center in support of the Northeast Office; $40,427 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for SVSU's Scholarships for Disadvantaged Nursing Students program; and $33,325 from the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the Museums for America project.  
    
Saint Xavier University, $256,490 from the U.S. Department of Education FIPSE program for the Bilingual English-Spanish for Speech-Language Pathology project. Also, $242,560 from the U.S. Department of Education to support a new General Education Curriculum Textbook Rental Program.
    
Trine University (Angola, Ind.), $500,000 from alumnus Ralph Ketner to the Ketner School of Business to fund phase one of a plan to renovate Ford Hall.
    
Valparaiso (Ind.) University, $1,348,853 from Lilly Endowment Inc. to extend a program supporting future teacher-scholars at church-related institutions of higher education.
   
Wittenberg University (Springfield, Ohio), $190,000 from the National Science Foundation to create a cutting-edge curriculum in which technologies normally used for high-end graphics, video games, animations and networking can be used to speed scientific discovery.
