Innovative Alumni Programs for Your Toolbox

Development teams collect a large amount of data on donors, but often that data is used solely for fundraising. Applying that research to alumni programming can help drive everything from strategic direction to talking points. Lake Forest College has seen significant growth in the effectiveness of alumni programs by applying data that already exists on the system. This presentation will cover how to use screening and giving data to get more for your cocktail dollars. Also, see how Purdue University has added innovative ideas to engage alumni throughout the U.S. and abroad. Ivy Tech Community College is the nation's largest state-wide community college with single accreditation. It is the state's largest public post-secondary institution serving nearly 200,000 students a year. Hear from their new director for alumni engagement about his plans to engage their thousands of alumni.

Million-Dollar Words: Writing Workshop for Fundraisers
Erie
How do you put your schools big ideas into words that resonate with your donors? Whether you fear it or love it, writing remains the heart of all fundraising communications. This session is a unique opportunity for writers, marketers and managers to work together through some of the most common writing challenges we face in fundraising. In a series of collaborative workshop exercises, we'll take on that most august yet mystifying document "the case statement" then work on adapting case language for print and direct mail pieces, video and event scripts, volunteer talking points, and web and social media applications. Best of all, the examples we use will be YOURS bring a sample of your institution's writing to develop through our workshop exercises. Whether you're thinking about your next great campaign or the regular communications you send out every day, this session is a chance to share ideas with fellow communicators, strengthen your institution's voice and build the writing skills we use every day but emphasize too rarely in professional development.
