CASE V: A pattern of excellence
Forward-thinking. Connections. Relevant. Value. Professional.
Steve Crawford, 2011 CASE V Conference Chair
These descriptors are more than just words. They define the vision for the 37th Annual CASE V Conference.
The program foundation builds upon the successful models implemented in previous years. At its core is professional development … educating colleagues on institutional advancement best practices as well as enhancing one’s network. Regardless of the institution, each of us have ideas to share and lessons to learn.
When one thinks of CASE V, probably the last thing that comes to mind is argyle. One represents the leading professional conference in the district; the other is a snazzy pattern popular on sweater vests. Just how are these two items remotely related?
Argyle is a repeated diamond shape which often uses complimentary colors. Interesting to some but generally a basic design. What makes it intriguing is the overlap of the repeated shape and colors. Placing one diamond on top of another creates sub-patterns and colors resulting in a more complex and appealing design.
Isn’t that what institutional advancement divisions want to achieve too? A more robust institutional view by combining the various units? Would your development officers be as successful without the visuals cues designed by your communications colleagues? Would your alumni events be as well attended without the dedication of your advancement services offices?
This year’s conference brings together professionals from multiple higher education facets to offer both an executive view and a new advancement professional’s view — and multiple views in between.
The opening speaker, Tyson Wooters, will help us get there. His energetic discussion on community and commitment to exceeding goals will give all of us a deeper perspective on what it means to be devoted to a cause. For many of us, volunteers are an extension of the professional staff. The closing speaker, Mona Purdy, will demonstrate how she motivates and manages more than 600 volunteers a week at Share Your Souls.
An enhanced conference priority crosses all segments of institutional advancement. The Professional Development track tackles critical issues such as managing conflict and sustaining dynamic teams.
I look forward to joining you at the 37th Annual DistrictConference. It’s coming to a common ground that moves us forward.
See you in Chicago,
Steve Crawford
