Pre-Conference Workshop for Newcomers to the Field of Advancement

If you are new to the profession, this is the prerequisite for the CASE V conference and your career! This workshop is designed to cross-train new professionals in all the advancement disciplines (alumni relations, development, communications, advancement services, student advancement programs, etc.) and will provide tools to hit the ground running. Ralph Amos, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Executive Director for the UCLA Alumni Association, will deliver the kick-off presentation. Get ready to be charged up your new career, profession and professional organization!

1:30-3 p.m. — Nuts and Bolts of Advancement
Gain insight from a group of advancement professionals on the value of understanding and embracing the profession as a whole. This interactive session will allow you, as advancement leaders of tomorrow, to explore the intricate and sometimes challenging relationships between the various disciplines. The goals are twofold: 1) to provide an introduction to advancement where all questions are welcome and dialogue is encouraged and 2) to develop a basic understanding of how professionals in our field should work together to create a progressive, relevant and successful advancement organization today and for the future.

3-3:30 p.m. — Breakout Session One: New to Advancement or New Professional?
For our first breakout session, the participatnts will pick one of the two areas that best suits them. Our discussions will be hosted by leaders in the field. The hosts have experience in hiring new grads to seasoned professionals changing paths. New to Advancement: Have you been in the private sector or another career track at a university or nonprofit? This discussion hosted by Lindsey Loftus and Janie Spencer will answer all your questions about your new career path in advancement. Starting Your New Career: This breakout session is designed for the recent graduate and working in university advancement. This discussion is hosted by Joe Matty and Angela Davis.

This second breakout session and last session rejoins all the newcomers together and is geared to answer any remaining questions about advancement or the conference you have. Again, a panel of leaders in the industry, this is your opportunity to ask all those burning questions you have.

No on-site registrations will be accepted. Registration materials will be available at the conference registration desk on Level 1 in the River Exhibition Hall Promenade from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13.

Become a member of the 2008 CASE V Conference Team by volunteering during the conference. Volunteers are needed as sessions hosts and staff for the Registration Desk, Local Hospitality/Information Center, and Session Host Center.
