Bringing International Alumni into Your Hug
Sheraton Ballroom I
Keeping alumni connected to their alma mater is a challenge. It's even more difficult when international students graduate and return to their native countries. At Eastern Illinois University, the Office of External Relations and the Office of International Programs joined forces to bring international alumni back into an institutional hug. This presentation will share efforts to re-establish contact with our international alumni, including the celebration of the university's first international alumni reunion.

Creating diverse populations through alumni relations: Creating a business case for affinity groups
Sheraton Ballroom I
As diversity grows within organizations, we must start to evaluate the need for stronger affinity groups. Alumni networks and affinity groups are vital to engage diverse constituencies. In the corporate world over 90% of Fortune 500 companies have networks groups. These affinity networks have lead to an increase in ideas as well as productivity. However, in education we sometime question their validity. This session will discuss: 1. What are the values of alumni that may wish to build affinity relationship within the organization? Does that create cohesiveness or segregation? 2. How does it enhance the business case for diverse populations? 3. What guidelines are necessary? Do they support the vision and values of the organization? Must they be the same? 4. Is the organization inclusive within their constituency? 5. How do you build an affinity business plan?
