Intercollegiate athletics has never been under greater scrutiny. Whether it's the legal imbroglio surrounding the Duke lacrosse team or universities accepting students/athletes from unaccredited high schools, more and more often stories relating to college sports are jumping from the sports page to the front page, from "Sportscenter" to the evening news. Yet there are also a lot of (under- reported) uplifting stories involving intercollegiate athletics. This session will take a look at how sports impact an institution's identity and the role communication professionals play when athletics impact advancement.
